Causes and Consequences Of A Nervous Breakdown

The term nervous breakdown” is not a medical term and is not listed as a psychiatric disorder in any medical text. It is a publicly (non-medically) coined term used in common language and speech to indicate a highly stressed state of mind.

A person having a nervous breakdown may have been greatly depressed or anxious for a long period of time before the breakdown. In extreme cases of breakdown, people also lose their awareness of reality, which is also known as impaired reality testing.Day to day activities and chores are seen as impossible tasks by nervous wrecks.

The day to day pressures of life and an inclination towards the all or nothing’ thinking, add up to a nervous breakdown. “Nervous breakdown” is a casual general public term with no medical text acknowledging it.

More precisely one should refer to the state of nervous breakdown as the ‘Exhaustion Phas’ of the General Adaption Syndrome. It is caused by extreme stress. This stress includes academic pressures, parental and institutional hassles, peer pressure, big purchases, changes in eating and sleeping cycles, relocation to different cities and even harsh climatic conditions.

General Adaption Syndrome
The general adaption syndrome has three notable phases namely alarm, resistance, and exhaustion, when listed in order of their occurrence. The phases are restricted and synchronized by the adrenal glands, which are located right above the kidneys in humans.

The hormone adrenaline and noradrenaline are released by the inner side of the adrenal gland called adrenal medulla. Whenever any stressful situation arises it is these hormones that deal with it. Adrenal cortex, which is the outer side of the adrenal gland, produces hormones like glucocorticoids and mineralcorticoids. These hormones help the body cope with periods of extended stress.

Onset of the Breakdown
The body can deal with stress only up to a threshold beyond which a person will reach the exhaustion stage of the general adaptation syndrome. At this stage, glucocorticoids levels have been depleted and are no longer replenished by the adrenal cortex.

As a consequence, no extra nutrients and sugar reach the body cells in need of it. A further mineral imbalance occurs when excess amounts of potassium are released in the blood stream. This imbalance heavily increases the load on the brain, blood vessels, heart and other body parts.

Consequences of the breakdown
In overtly stressful situations either the whole body or a specific organ may collapse. Stress has also been found to be related to depression, cancer, PMS, menstrual problems, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, ulcers and arthritis. Dissolution of personality albeit provisional may occur and is described in layman’s language as snapping.

People experiencing a nervous breakdown also cry unmanageably and lose interest and pleasure in all day to day chores. They may also gain or lose weight drastically. The patients experience horrible confusion, stupefaction and intense thoughts of insignificance, culpability and desolation.

Signs of Infertility in Men

The signs of infertility in men are practically invisible. Outside of a couples inability to get pregnant there are no other obvious signs.

Couples trying to get pregnant are usually successful with the first six months of unprotected intercourse. Statistically speaking within twelve months of trying to conceive, 85 percent of couples will become pregnant.

Men account for about 20% of the infertility in couples trying to conceive. Couples with both the male and the female having infertility issues are about 30% to 40% with women having the highest issues with infertility at 40% to 50%.

There are a number of reasons why a man may be infertile including low sperm concentration, varicocele, undescended testicle, impaired shape or movement of sperm, infections, genetic defects, testosterone deficiency, inability to deliver sperm correctly, sexual issues, retrograde ejaculation, blockage of epididymis, no semen, hypospadias, anti-sperm antibodies, cancer, and cystic fibrosis.

There could also be general health and lifestyle issues such as the, emotional stress, malnutrition, obesity, alcohol and/or drugs, severe injury, major surgery and cancer treatment. Certain diseases or conditions can cause issues as well such as Cushing’s syndrome, anemia, thyroid disease or diabetes.

Heat, toxins, and other environmental issues can have a major effect on a male’s ability to produce sperm count sufficient enough to conceive. Pesticides may sperm production and even testicular cancer. Someone who spends a lot of time in a hot tube may reduce his sperm count due to the elevated core body temperature. Of course the use of cocaine or marijuana can also reduce sperm count. Even tobacco can have a negative effect by lowering sperm count.

Even age can be an issue. Older men will be much less fertile than younger men. The age a man begins to become less fertile is around 40 years of age.

Sufficient sperm count and proper shape of the sperm is needed to reach and penetrate the egg. A normal sperm count to achieve pregnancy is greater than or equal to 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen. A count of less than 10 million indicates low sperm count.

You can see that there are many factors that can cause infertility in men. Fertility in men is very complex. There are a number of factors that must be perfect for a man’s healthy sperm to be delivered into the vagina, reach-penetrate and fertilize a women’s egg. Although it is difficult to find the cause of male infertility there are a number of treatments that have been effective in reversing male infertility. Be patient with the process, it may take some time.

There is a tendency for men to feel “less than a man” because of infertility. This should not be the case. The important thing is to treat this issue like any other illness and seek good council and proper advice. Don’t hesitate to get more than one opinion and check out alternate treatments outside of the medical community. There are many holistic treatments available that have been extremely successful in helping men overcome this issue. Remember the reward of fatherhood awaiting you. Take the journey, it is well worth it!

What does zinc have to do with BPH, cancer and other prostate disease

Did you know that more than 60% of male Americans have a deficiency of zinc? Male semen has 100 times more zinc than the blood! Here is another the fact: You might have read somewhere that DHT (dihydrotestosterone) causes the prostate to grow.

WAIT! Maybe I am getting ahead of myself, let’s start again.

The prostate gland is highly unusual because it undergoes an increase in size at several stages during most of a man’s life.

* The first growth phase is completed before or at birth, when the average prostate weighs about 1.5 grams.

* The second growth phase occurs early during puberty, when the weight of the prostate gland increases to around 11 grams.

* The third growth phase occurs during the mid-20s, when the weight of the prostate gland increases to approximately 18 grams.

* There is another apparent growth phase that begins when a man is in his 50s. Size varies depending on the males health.

* By the time a man is in his 70s, the prostate gland has reached a maximum weight of 31 grams.

Although the prostate gland grows during much of a man’s life, urinary flow problems Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) and/or cancer usually appears only after the age of 50 as a consequence of the final growth phase.

The medical researchers don’t really know yet why the prostate gland enlarges during multiple growth spurts. However, there are two theories that attempt to explain this pheomenon. Both theories believe
hormonal changes over time are responsible.

(1) Changes in the normal balance of sex hormones. With advancing age, the amount of the male hormone testosterone The primary male reproductive hormone. Made in the testes, it is responsible for the growth and maturation of the primary male reproductive organs and the development of characteristics such as a low-pitched voice, the male’s unique distribution of body hair, the relative lack of fat below the skin, and bigger bone structure. , decreases relative to the amount of circulating estrogen

A female hormone that is also normally found in small quantities in a man’s bloodstream., the main female reproductive hormone which also circulates in the male.

There is some evidence to suggest that this relative increase in circulating estrogen may strengthen the effect of the testosterone derivative DHT, which promotes cell growth in the prostate gland and is formed when testosterone is acted upon by a specific enzyme. As a consequence of estrogen and DHT acting together, cell growth and glandular enlargement are promoted.

NOTE: Ah-ha, DHT seems to get out of control and may be the cause of BPH. Every wonder exactly what DHT is? Well here you go. DHT is a biologically active metabolite of the hormone testosterone, formed primarily in the prostate gland, testes, hair follicles, and adrenal glands by the enzyme 5a-reductase by means of reducing the 4,5 double-bond. DHT belongs to the class of compounds called androgens, also commonly called androgenic hormones or testoids. Androgens are part of the biology of gender by stimulating and controlling the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics. DHT is 3 times more potent than testosterone; testosterone is 5-10 times more potent than adrenal androgens.

(2) Now here is the 2nd theory about DHT. Prostate gland development requires the conversion of testosterone into DHT. In the presence of a specific enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. As aging occurs, the amount of DHT in the prostate gland remains high, even through the circulating testosterone level drops.

Some evidence supports the idea that this high level of prostate DHT may by itself promote cell growth and lead to enlargement.

Now after that introduction we come to zinc. The role of zinc in a wide range of cellular processes, including cell division (ah – that means getting larger – right?) and proliferation, immune function, and defense against free radicals, has been well established. Zinc is the most abundant trace element in cells, and increasing evidence emphasizes zinc’s important role in both genetic stability and function.

Zinc deficiency can lead to immune dysfunction and impairments in growth, cognitive function, and hormonal function. Over 2 billion people worldwide may have a zinc deficiency, you don’t need to be one of them.

Research has established a link between zinc deficiency and cancer is now established by human, animal, and cell culture studies. We also know that zinc status is compromised in cancer patients compared to healthy people.

Zinc also appears to play an important role in maintaining prostate health. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American men, and most elderly men have some abnormal prostate cells. BPH may or may not be a precursor to prostate cancer. The normal human prostate ccumulates the highest level of zinc of any soft tissue in the body, but we don’t know why. However, cancerous prostates have much less zinc than normal rostates, and several studies have implicated impaired zinc status in the development and progression of prostate malignancy. There is also some evidence that ncreased dietary zinc is associated with a decrease in the incidence of prostate cancer.

Zinc supplementation strategies may not only aid in the prevention of ancer, but could also play an important role in limiting its malignancy. As an antioxidant and a component of many DNA repair proteins, zinc plays an important role in protecting DNA from damage. The current tolerable upper intake level for zinc is 40 mg/day, established by the U.S. Institute of Medicine. Thus, it is possible that the subjects in the epidemiological study could have been in the toxic range of zinc intake. As with most therapeutics, higher doses do not always equate with an increase in

Just as a final note, zinc has some positive side effects such as: effective in shortening cold symptoms, reduce the severity of cold sores, increase energy levels, treat ADHD in children, fighting hair loss and managing conditions such as hypoglycemia and diabetes. The negative side effect of zine could include: A decrease your copper, iron and magnesium levels, reduce your body’s immune function, and reduce your HDL (good cholesterol) level. Additional rare side effects could include: stomach upset, heartburn and nausea, fever, sore throat, mouth sores, weakness and fatigue.

There is some hope in clinical trials. Irving Bush, M.D., professor of urology at the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School, senior consultant at the Center for Study of Genitourinary Diseases in West Dundee, Illinois, and former chairman of the Food and Drug Administration panels on gastroenterology, urology and dialysis, did a small study of the use of zinc in treating BPH. The men in the study took 150 milligrams of inc sulfate every day for two months, followed by 50 to 100 milligrams a day as a maintenance dose. Dr. Bush found that 14 of the 19 men experienced shrinkage of the prostate.

When Is Thyroid Surgery Necessary?

Many types of thyroid conditions can be successfully treated using means other than surgery such as medication or radio-iodine. In some instances, surgery is the best option, in others it may be the only option available. Surgery is usually not the first option if noninvasive treatment could be used instead.

Nodules are a common reason for thyroid surgery. The doctor my try removing fluid and using medication to shrink the nodule but if these treatments don’t work, then surgery is the next choice. If the nodule is a source of anxiety or pain for the patient, the doctor may decide to go ahead and perform surgery to remove it. Doctors usually agree that a nodule with a diameter over four centimeters should be removed.

Nodules that stimulate overproduction of thyroid hormone are called “Hot Nodules” and these are treated with surgery or radio-iodine. Because some patients are fearful of radioactive iodine therapy, doctors may elect to perform the surgery for the patient’s peace of mind. The incidence of developing hypothyroidism as a result of removing a nodule is fairly low so choosing to do surgery carries a fairly low risk.

Multi nodular goiters can occasionally be treated with means other than surgery but sometimes surgery becomes necessary. If the goiter continues to grow larger despite medical treatment or if it becomes toxic, it may need to be surgically removed.

Patients may elect to have goiters removed for cosmetic reasons if it has grown large enough to become a visible lump. Goiters that interfere with normal bodily functions must be removed such as when they compress the trachea or begin to compress an artery. These goiters can cause respiratory infection, blockage of the respiratory tract, reduced blood flow or stroke.

Thyroid cancer is the main reason for thyroid surgery. In some cases, a partial thyroidectomey may be performed. Normally, doctors will opt for a total thyroidectomy in order to prevent the cancer from returning or spreading. The cancer may have metastasized before the thyroid was removed therefore thyroid surgery for cancer is often combined with other cancer treatments like radiation or chemotherapy.

A partial thyroidectomy might be done on a patient with a follicular or papillary cancer that is in T1 stage and less than a centimeter wide. Anaplastic and medullary cancers and large follicular or medullary tumors commonly result in a total thyroidectomy. Removal of the whole thyroid will require that the patient takes thyroid hormone replacement medication on a daily basis for the rest of his life.

All surgical operations carry some risk and there is also risk to thyroid surgery although the risks are small compared to other surgeries. The general risks include infection, reaction to anesthesia and excessive bleeding. The risks specific to thyroid surgery include hoarseness which could be permanent due to damaged laryngeal nerves and hypothyroidism which would require permanent medical treatment. In all, thyroid surgery is relatively safe and is usually a straightforward procedure.

Three Basic Options Of Breast Cancer Treatment

Breast cancer has been deemed as the most common type of cancer among women today. There are many documented cases of men experiencing this condition as well. Normally, this specific type of cancer is related to normal changes that occur within the breast of a female on a monthly basis. While these changes are normal, it is important to understand that the growth, or tumors, that can develop may prove to be cancerous. It is also important to remember that not all growths in the breast area are cancerous.

Cancerous growths that occur as a result of breast cancer can quickly spread to other locations throughout the body. This is why medical professionals stress the importance of conducting basic self-examinations of the breast on a monthly basis. If this disease is discovered in the early stages of development, there are a few basic treatment options available. If it is discovered in the later stages, there is still hope for successful treatment. Here, you will learn about these treatment options.

There are a few basic breast cancer treatment options. Before selecting a treatment for this condition, it is important for you to understand the ultimate goals behind them. The first goal, naturally, is to eliminate all traces of breast cancer in the body. The second is to ensure that the effective steps have been taken to reduce the possibility of the cancer returning. The determination of the treatment normally depends on the extent of the cancer, as well as the areas of the body that are affected.

Surgery is a common treatment option when it comes to breast cancer. Medical professionals will examine the type of cancer that is being experienced, as well as the progression of the disease before suggesting surgery. If a person is suffering from a growth in the breast area that is cancerous, they may need to participate in a surgery that works to save the breast. This type of breast cancer surgery results in the lump, growth, or ‘cancer’ to be extracted from the breast while the breast is kept in place.

Many individuals who experience breast cancer may have a large amount of cancerous cells in the breast itself. These cancerous cells may be so immense that they are starting to spread to other areas in the body. Many professionals who deal with this type of breast cancer will suggest a ‘mastectomy’. This is a surgery that requires the entire breast to be removed from the body. This is normally performed in the advanced stages of breast cancer. However, if it is deemed as an appropriate procedure in the early stages of breast cancer, it will be done then too.

Many medical professionals have found that by providing a person who is infected with breast cancer various types of hormones, the cancer is stopped. This is a very productive treatment when it comes to preventing this type of cancer. As a matter of fact, if an individual has breast cancer surgery, most doctors will implement the treatment of hormone therapy in order to ensure that the cancer does not return. If you suffer from this type of cancer, it is important to discuss this option with your physician.

Radiation is also a common treatment for breast cancer patients. This is an important procedure for sufferers because of the fact that this treatment can effectively eliminate the amount of cells that are cancerous in the body. Many times, this procedure is most commonly used after an individual has had breast cancer surgery. This treatment will work to destroy any lingering breast cancer cells after surgery has been concluded.

As you can see, there are a number of treatment options available for those who experience breast cancer. If you suffer from this devastating disease, it is important that you learn as much as you possibly can about the condition.

You should work closely with your doctor to ensure that you experiment with a treatment that will be most effective for your specific needs when it comes to breast cancer. For individuals with this disease, there is a lot of hope. Most treatment methods are effective, and many will recover from the disease successfully.

Nutritional Properties of Goji Berries

Many of the legendary health-giving properties of goji berries are today being confirmed in modern scientific studies, and this has led to the possibility of even more far-reaching benefits.

Both species of Goji are deciduous woody perennial plants, growing 1-3 m high. L. chinense is grown in the south of China and tends to be somewhat shorter.

In addition to being cultivated in China, Goji berries also grow on extensive vines in the sheltered valleys of the Himalayas in Tibet, and in Mongolia. The round, red Goji berries are very tender and must be shaken from the vine rather than picked in order to avoid spoiling.

The Goji fruits are preserved by slowly drying them in the shade. Goji has been eaten locally in the Himalayan and Tibetan regions for centuries and is celebrated in festivals. The Goji fruit is nicknamed the “happy berry” because of the sense of well being it is said to induce.

Goji berries and lycium bark play important roles in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), where they are believed to enhance immune system function, help eyesight, protect the liver, boost sperm production, and improve circulation and longevity, among other effects. In TCM terms, Goji berries are sweet in taste and neutral in nature; they act on the liver, lung, and kidney channels and enrich yin. Goji berries can be eaten raw, brewed into a tea, or prepared as a tincture.

The berries have the following properties: Yin tonic, improves vision, boost sperm production, benefits complexion, nourishes Liver and Kidney, replenishes vital essence (semen), powerful antioxidant, antimutagenic, and improves circulation, anti cancer properties.

One of the most well-known traditional properties of Goji berry fruit is its ability to improve vision. This has been documented for over fifteen centuries. Modern scientific studies have finally supplied some substantiation to this property. It turns out Goji fruit not only contains high amounts of b -carotene 8 mg/100g but this b -carotene is in a highly biologically active form which is readily utilized by the body.

Another well-known and long-documented traditional property of Goji fruit is its ability to “benefit complexion and maintain one’s beauty”; Goji is also considered to have anti-aging properties. To drug-oriented American scientists, this certainly sounds ridiculous. But various studies have shown Goji fruit to have numerous beneficial effects, including, antioxidant, immuno-potentiating, antimutagenic, hypoglycaemic, hypolipemic, hypotensive, etc., all of which contribute to the slowing down of the aging process or help us live longer.

The beautifying property of Goji fruit may have some scientific basis after all which may justify its use in skin-care cosmetics, as recent laboratory studies not only demonstrated its antioxidant effect but also its ability to increase dermal hydroxyproline level in mice, indicating increased collagen synthesis. All these effects are good for the skin.

Some medical researches prove that a sweet tonic decoction made from the Goji fruit has traditionally been used to lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.

Goji acts mainly on the liver and kidneys. Goji fruit has traditionally been taken internally in the treatment of high blood pressure, diabetes, poor eyesight, vertigo, lumbago, impotence and menopausal complaints.

Goji fruit is harvested when fully ripe and is dried for later use. The Goji root bark is a bitter, cooling, antibacterial herb that controls coughs and lowers fevers, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels. It is taken internally in the treatment of chronic fevers, internal haemorrhages, nosebleeds, tuberculosis, coughs, asthma etc. It is applied externally to treat genital itching. The bark is harvested in the winter and dried for later use. It has diuretic and purgative properties.

The plant has a long history of medicinal use, both as a general, energy restoring tonic and also to cure a wide range of ailments from skin rashes and eyesight problems to diabetes.

A tonic tea is made from the leaves. The fruit of many members of this genus is a very rich source of vitamins and minerals, especially in vitamins A, C and E, flavanoids and other bio-active compounds. Goji is also a good source of essential fatty acids, which is very unusual for a fruit.

Goji is being investigated as a food that is capable of reducing the incidence of cancer and also as a means of halting or reversing the growth of cancers.

Some of the benefits of goji berries are: inhibit tumor growth, prevent cancer, neutralize the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, help normalize blood pressure, help balance blood sugar, combat autoimmune disease, act as an anti-inflammatory, balance immune function, lower cholesterol and blood lipids, increase calcium absorption.

The goji berries can be used in the cases of general weakness, lack of energy, aching back and joints, tinnitus, dizziness, diabetes, blurred vision, cough, wet dreams, sexual inadequacies. The internal benefits are the following – Toxic side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The external benefits are: – Burns, ulcers, bedsores, frostbite, furuncles.

Many sources note that the berry contains a full protein (as opposed to partial proteins as in bread).

Additionally, several other beneficial compounds are reported to have been discovered in the analysis by the Beijing Nutrition Research Institute:

Selenium and Germanium: These are well-known anti-cancer agents.

Beta Sitosterol: This anti-inflammatory agent has been found to lower cholesterol, and has been used to treat impotence and prostate enlargement.

Zeaxanthin and Lutine: Have been known to protect the eyes.

Betaine: Produces Choline in the liver, which helps detoxification processes there. It is also known to protect DNA, enhance memory, encourage muscle growth and protect against fatty liver disease.

Cyperone: Used in treatment of cervical cancer. It is known to benefit blood pressure, heart and menstruation problems.

Solavetivone: An anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent.

Physalin: A compound known to boost the immune system. Also found effective in treating leukemia, cancer and hepatitis B.

One of the most known and highly used products out of goji berries is goji juice. The natural juice flavoring system gives a consistently delicious flavor, and works with the product to enhance its already remarkable benefits.

In the naturally produced juice there is never any added sugar, artificial sweeteners, colors, or flavors.

Signs And Symptoms Of Breast Cancer To Watch Out For

Although a lot of symptoms have been given for breast cancer, it is noted that breast cancer can come with a different sign and symptoms in some people. So the best way of detecting breast cancer is by knowing your breast and being aware of the slightest changes that occur, be it in size, shape or feel.

Do you know that those birth control pills you pop can cause you breast cancer? Birth control pills increase the estrogen level in a woman’s body. Increased estrogen has been linked with the development of breast cancer as tested patients show high estrogen content. Using other modes of contraceptives like condoms will lower the risk of increasing your risk level with respect to breast cancer.

If you are very positive, even when breast cancer is staring you in the face, unseen forces will come to your aid and heal you. I know this sounds crazy but history has it of lots of ladies that have also survived breasts cancer because of their strong faiths. If they could, you can as well. What’s stopping you is the belief that you can be healed. To get started, get the belief. After the belief, then find out what those ladies who survived did and do the same thing. Nothing can stop you from getting the same results, except of course, your mind.

Excessive consumption of fat and alcohol can enhance the development of breast cancer. You should watch your food and drinks even though it has not been proven that these two culprits cause cancer, we know it contributes to it.

Cancer can hit you in any part of the body. Breast cancer is simply the type that strikes you in the chest. Some folks think that only women get this, but that is not true; men contract it also. What people should focus on is how to put an end to the disease, starting with detecting it in good time – before it spreads all over the body and causes much more damage

Breast cancer is almost painless at the initial stage; this has made early detection somewhat difficult. One of the symptoms however that can be felt early enough is armpit itching. The itching can even extend beyond the armpit and extend to the surroundings of the breast. Although this is not a must feel symptom before breast cancer can be diagnosed, it is advised that you take note and report all irregular cases of armpit itching.

Nutrient Resveratrol has being showed by studies to reduce the risk associated with breast cancer. Resverratol is a naturally occurring antioxidant present on the outer skin of red or purple grape. So if you indulge in taking of grape fruit and wine you may be doing yourself some good with respect to breast cancer.

Ignorance is more deadly than the most advanced stage of breast cancer. You should not fold you arms and ignore information pertaining to breast cancer. As a woman who knows the current statistic shows that one out of every eleven women is going to be diagnosed with breast cancer, you should be all out to get information to help keep you on the favored side of the statistic.

Abdominal Hysterectomy

The procedure for removing the uterus through a woman’s abdomen is known as abdominal hysterectomy. Depending on her medical condition, the doctor may also require the removal of other reproductive organs such as the ovaries, cervix, and the fallopian tubes during this surgery.

A woman stops menstruating after undergoing this procedure. This, in turn, makes her unable to bear children. The surgery won’t affect her sexual life and she can even do without contraceptives. It’s not true that the woman looks more aged after the surgery or that the surgery leaves the abdomen empty, as the bowels take the place of the removed organs.

Although hysterectomy is capable of treating a lot of conditions, there are some conditions that may be completely treated only by incorporating other forms of treatment.

Abdominal Hysterectomy Techniques

An abdominal hysterectomy may be performed through any of the following methods: total, total with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and subtotal.

If only the uterus needs to be removed and the cervix can be retained then a subtotal hysterectomy is performed. This procedure results in shorter hospital stays because the patient gets to recover more quickly, given the faster completion of the surgery. There is also reduced risk of blood loss, fever, vaginal prolapse, and organ damage. The patient may still experience spotting due to the remaining endometrial tissue in the endometrial canal, and the risk of cancer remains due to the retained cervix.

If the cervix must be removed along with the uterus then a total abdominal hysterectomy is performed. The procedure becomes known as a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy when the fallopian tubes and the ovaries are also removed.

Medical Conditions that Require Abdominal Hysterectomy

Abdominal hysterectomy may be required for the treatment of the following conditions:

* Cancer of the uterus or the cervix

* Fibroids

* Heavy bleeding

Preparing for an Abdominal Hysterectomy

Make the following preparations to ensure that you’re in the best condition for a hysterectomy:

* Organize things at home and at work to make sure that everything will run smoothly while you are away.

* You shouldn’t take any medicines for blood thinning about a week before your hysterectomy.

* Consult your doctor about the medicines that you should stop taking before your surgery. One of this is birth control medication, which can increase your risk of blood clots.

Post Surgery Precautions

The following are some dos and don’ts right after undergoing a hysterectomy:

* Do not use tampons when dealing with any vaginal bleeding that occurs after surgery. Better use sanitary napkins.

* If vaginal bleeding becomes prolonged and you get odorous secretions, be sure to inform your doctor to get proper advice and treatment.

* You won’t get addicted to pain killers as long as you follow your doctor’s prescription. Take them to deal with the pain caused by the surgery.

Cancer treatment in India is the best
One of the topmost cancer surgeons in the world today, Dr R Bidwe, the Director of the Tata Memorial Research Centre asserts, “We offer the same treatment as any other part of the world. Everything that can be done in the best cancer centers across the globe can be done here.”
Dr Ashish Bakshi, senior consultant medical oncologist with the L H Hiranandani Hospital reiterates that cancer treatment in our country is equivalent and in some cases even better than anywhere else abroad.
Devika Bhojwani, Vice President of the Women’s Cancer Initiative says, “It is a myth that we get better cancer treatment abroad. When it comes to treating cancer, we are one of the best in the world today. We have the finest surgeons here and right from the hospitals, to the treatment and surgery techniques, equipments used, and post-treatment care as well as cost, we are among the finest.”
Director Anurag Basu, who had been diagnosed with acute leukemia in 2004 was given a two-month ultimatum. He battled cancer here in our country and says that it is not that India is less any way when it comes to cancer treatment. The ace director states, “As a cancer survivor, I have
attended many conferences and seminars abroad and have always heard foreign doctors speak very highly of the kind of work being done in India when it comes to cancer. I have always heard them talk very highly of Indian doctors.”
The cost of cancer treatment and cancer medicines in India is amongst the world’s lowest, about 80% cheaper than the cost in the USA. Cost of cancer surgery at heart hospitals in India is also significantly cheaper than cost of cancer surgery in comparable hospitals in other popular medical tourism destinations. The low cost of cancer treatment in India is without any compromise on technology, quality, level of service or success rate.

Anticancer Nutrition and How It Plays A Vital Lifesaving Role

Cancer manifests as a consequence of two things: Toxicity in the body and stress. It doesn’t matter what type of cancer it is. These two factors are always the root cause. Detoxify the body by good nutrition and take out the stress and a person can be cancer-free.

However, for cancer, there is a specific dietary regime called ‘metabolic nutritional therapy’, which I will go in to later. Apply this, with extended tender loving care and attention to the other factors that make up illness: a positive outlook on life, avoidance of environmental toxins and an appropriate regime of exercise (about half an hour a day) and success in taking control of your health can be yours.

Being cancer-free and therefore healthy means that the body’s cells function optimally. For optimal function, the body’s cells must have an unrestricted flow of oxygen, nerve impulse and nutrients. The cells must be efficient in the uptake and removal of materials. Ultimately, it’s all about the smooth ebb and flow of energy…

Features of an anticancer diet

The food is immune system building

Immune system building is one of the most important factors when it comes to the prevention and treatment of cancer. The ‘Big Four’ health factors: Diet, exercise, the environment and our psychology all contribute to the state of our immune system. Remember doctors pay very little attention to this. Any consideration, for example, to the types of food you eat, which could give a lot of healing power, does not bring money in for the pharmaceutical sponsored orthodox medical approach. This is a sad failure from doctors to not realise how Big Pharma has educated them for profits, rather than a genuine care for the patient.

I would suggest a review of what you eat. Sort out the things that are good and bad for you, and then make some simple gradual changes towards a healthy diet. How long this will take depends on you. The main thing here is not to be too drastic. Do things on a slow, steady gradient, and then perhaps there will be a lesser chance of caving in on your healthy resolution and going back to your old ways. The worst thing I have found is to be tempted by one little morsel of junk food or suchlike, which in effect can open the floodgates towards going back to your old dietary habits again. Resist this and you’re well on the way towards a healthier diet.

Organic food is definitely recommended

Don’t be too bothered about the extra money; it’s worth the money and your health will be better.

After cigarette smoking, meat is the next biggest potential cancer causer. Taking the above point 4 for going organic, the high toxicities in intensively farmed animal food produce and the chemicals; preservatives, flavour enhancers…etc in the manufacturing process of meats, are the reasons.

-All pose as a threat to your immune system.

Other health threats in meat eating include cardiovascular problems due to the poisons mentioned in point number 4. Meat contains unhealthy fats, which can contribute to artery blockages.

A vegetarian diet can avoid the above risks. Many vegetarians are known for having healthy blood pressures and heart rates. There is enough evidence left, right and centre to show that longevity occurs more frequently in vegetarians.

A good supply of fresh fruit & vegetables

As shown in my table ‘Some Examples of a cancer free diet’ eating a range of fruits and vegetables and nuts (frugivore)… etc frequently, is health promoting. This kind of diet serves as part of a sound way of building your immune system. Fruit and vegetables have a high nutritional value, high water content and are low in calories. When eaten, say with plenty of water, the stomach expands and signals nervous messages to the brain, giving the feeling of having eaten a big meal or enough food (point for the slimmers).

There’s a lot more to it than that. In this brief mention, it will be sufficed to say for now that fruit n’ veg of the organic kind has a high vitamins and minerals content. Because the body is made up of about 70% water, it is a good idea to include around just over 80% of high-water content foods (fruit n’ veg, and food from the garden…?)

Processed foods neither have the high vitamin and mineral or high water content. They also leave an unhealthy acid condition in the body, unlike most fruit, when absorbed into the body leaves a very health promoting alkali ash. It is to this end that when fruit is eaten on any empty stomach, it is left unhindered to produce an alkalised body. Not only will this serve as a great way of preventing cancer but also, the other hidden benefit is that of making you feel more vitalised and energised. Through trying this I have found that I need less sleep.

Get a good share of fibre & whole grain foods

Eating fibre and whole grain food acts as a good all-round healthy option. Both improve digestion. Fibrous, solid food gives bulk to the intestine and encourages peristalsis (movement of food along the alimentary canal for digestion). It therefore helps in the stages of digestion: the breaking down of food and then its absorption or uptake into the body for metabolic processes, and finally the elimination of waste, not allowing a build up of toxins. No doubt, this all helps in the prevention of cancer and greatly reduces the risk of many other diseases.

Stay well hydrated

It should be well understood that many of the drinks on the market do not have the qualities that water possesses necessary for health. There are so many people drinking things like soda pops, with their high sugar content or artificial sweeteners, giving rise to toxins in the body. Tea or tea or coffee is no exception either when it comes to toxins. The two drinks also loose water through their diuretic effect. After a barrage of all these beverages, no wonder the body is crying out for good clean drinking water. No wonder there is so many degenerative illnesses. They can be traced to a lack of water intake. When intake is increased over time many of these conditions have been known to disappear.

The daily recommendation for water is a couple of litres a day. This volume serves to:

1. Keep the digestive system flowing and help flush out the toxins, as well as other spring-cleaning chores

2. Detoxifies the body’s cells

3. Maintains water on the lungs

4. Helps to keep the body in an alkalised state. The ideal pH being around 7.4

It is important to drink plenty of water for cancer prevention and is an absolute essential for patients.
